Every kitchen is different, and serves a different purpose depending on the household. For some, the kitchen is just a place to prep food or make tea, while for others the kitchen is the heart of the home. In many cases, the kitchen is the most important space for entertaining guests and enjoying a night in. So how can you create a kitchen that is perfect for this purpose? Well, here at MLS Kitchens, we are Manchester’s leading kitchen design specialists. And this is our guide to designing a kitchen for entertaining.

Designing a kitchen for entertaining

So, how can a kitchen be designed with entertaining guests in mind? Well, there are number of things you should consider, including:

  • Creating an open plan kitchen- a kitchen for entertaining should be large and open plan, with ample seating and relaxing space. This should be well divided from the food preparation and cooking zone, to create clear boundaries and areas within the open plan space. However, this will not interfere with conversation or entertainment, between zones. So you can still have fun, while you prepare the evening meal.
  • Two sinks- if you have the space, two sinks is a great idea. This way you can use one sink for prepping food and ingredients, leaving the other free for your guests to use, or to keep beverages fresh. These should be well spaced out to avoid congestion, and you should also consider the position of the sink in association with the fridge and the oven.
  • Kitchen island- a kitchen island can work effectively as a bridge between the different zones, and can also supply more storage and work- surface space. Also, a hob can be installed onto the surface of a kitchen island, or even the additional sink you could use.
