From traditional or rustic kitchens, to contemporary, handle-less kitchens, there are a wide variety of styles to choose from. And then there is the finish. Would you prefer a gloss or matt kitchen finish? Well, while many people automatically select gloss finishes for their contemporary kitchen, this doesn’t have to be the case. Matt finish kitchens can be both contemporary and stylish. And we have produced this guide to matt finish kitchens.
What is a matt finish?
A matt finish offers a flat finish, instead of a shiny or glossy one. And although this can give a more muted appearance, it can also be subtle and sophisticated.
The matt finish absorbs light, rather than reflecting it, which means that for small kitchens, it might not be the best option, as it will not create a light, bright space. However, in medium to large size kitchens, this finish can have a number of advantages.
Advantages of matt finish kitchens
Matt finish kitchens are:
- Smooth and even- In a glossy contemporary kitchen, the colour can be distorted by the light reflections. But with a matt finish, your colour will present itself as smooth and even. This means the rich colour of your cabinets will become more of a feature.
- Elegant and sophisticated- In a world where we are inundated with flashing and shiny objects, from the latest mobile phone to the latest car, an understated kitchen can appear elegant and sophisticated. It doesn’t need to be flashy to get your attention, it can do that by itself.
- No finger marks- There is a practical advantage to a matt finish kitchen. If you have young children, you will know how annoying it can be to remove fingerprints from glossy surfaces. But matt kitchens do not show up such marks.
