When it comes to your kitchen design, colours and tones will be an essential part of your considerations. White kitchen suites are still the most popular option, but dark cabinet colours are becoming increasingly common for both traditional and contemporary homes. But what if you want to create a light and bright kitchen? What are your options? And so you need to only use white cabinets? Well, here at MLS Kitchens, we are Manchester’s leading kitchen design specialists. As a result, we have produced this guide to creating a light and bright kitchen.

Creating a light and bright kitchen

So, what can you do to create a kitchen that is light, bright and airy? Well, there are several ways to achieve this, including:

  • Adding lots of glass- Glass windows and doors can really open your kitchen up to the outside, and connect your home to the outdoor space. Glass ceiling and roof lanterns can also be used to increase the light flowing into your kitchen.
  • Under cabinet lighting- spotlights and lights underneath the top row of cabinets can be very stylish and effective in contemporary kitchens. They also help to contribute to a lighter space, adding devoted task lighting.
  • Glossy surfaces- for a kitchen that sparkles and spreads light around the room, glossy finishes are a must. These will reflect any natural or artificial light and help to create a space that is bright and well lit.
  • Choose pale colours- while dark surfaces can add drama and visual interest, light surfaces will help to make your kitchen feel brighter. However, you shouldn’t be restricted to white. Many colour options, when applied with a glossy finish, can be a light and bright, but not white. Pale blues and greens, pale reds and other pastel colours could be effective.
